DNA Idenification Project-

Our group brought 500 DNA test kits direct from Sorenson Genomics in Salt Lake City, Utah to assist in the identification of Thai "unknown" corpses at Wat Yaan Yao in Phangnga Thailand. Dave Rockwood and the team have been working closely with head Thai Forensic Scientist Dr. Pornthip.

Another 1,000 kits will be expressed to Phangnga this week.  Dave Rockwood is working with the local Thai DNA teams to ensure that the DNA collection protcols are being followed and will give the best results.  For now the Utah DNA kits are being used with "unknown Thai" corpses, we are swabbing living relatives and catagorizing them for express shipment to Utah for analysis. This very important project is a "first priority" for our team now due to it's benefit to Thai families...

The local Thai DNA ICT staff has a moto up in the computer area that reads; " We will bring them home..." in reference to the unidentified bodies and their Thai families... The local Thai efforts have been an inspiration to us all... Dave Rockwood

Missing & Dead Identification Board

Helping Resort Beach Workers-

Khun Wat is a local lifeguard at the famous tourist beach Karon Beach, on Dec 26 he saved over 20 tourists from sure death with the tsunami.  He aso lost his only form of transportation his Honda scooter, and all of his money, cell phone etc.  We helped Khun Wat with a used motorcycle and cell phone replacement.

Khun Chalee is a local "beach boy" surfing instructor, the tsunami took his teaching board and his personal board.  We were able to bring him two new "soft foam teaching boards" from the USA and a new personal long board for upcoming surf contests in Phuket.  He now generates income from surf instruction and renting the boards out to tourists in Kata Beach.

Reconstruction Projects-

We will include the reconstruction and implementation of needed infrastructure so that these families can re-build their quality of life in every way.

We hope to raise sufficient funds for required communications, housing, medical care, schools, and economic development for the local Thai people.

RESORT WORKER ASSISTANCE & RELOCATION SERVICES-

There are thousands of dislocated Thai resort workers that no longer have a place to go to work, a place to stay, or other ways to support their families...  We will be assisting these workers and their families to recover.

Thai Tsunami Help.org has been working with United Volunteers.org to assist in local reconstruction projects in Phuket.  They are a group of skilled workers and are dedicated to direct aid to the Thai Tsunami victims; we have been very impressed with their "hands on" organizational skills and commitment to the cause.  Jeff Pan and Andrea North from the USA are the founders of this group and we will continue to coordinate efforts with this group.  We are forwarding contacts and names of displaced resort workers for them to hire in the reconstruction efforts.  www.unitedvolunteers.org
